The Katadyn Combi utilizes a silver impregnated ceramic filter element that can be used alone or in combination with a separate cartridge element of granulated activated carbon to reduce chemicals in the water. The ceramic element can be repeatedly cleaned and will serve 1-4 people for up to 13,000 gallons, the activated carbon granules have a limited capacity and will be effective for a shorter time once exposed to water. We recommend including replacements for both in your planning: one ceramic element (retail value $84.95) and a twin pack of the foil-sealed activated carbon granules (retail value $11.95).
